the bimbo-positive manifesto

for the record:

Bimbo is
a flex.

hyperfem is bimbo-positive. The pink, the gloss, the tiny tees, the being extra: none of it was ever the problem. The word was used to make pretty women small. We’re wearing it instead.

What does bimbo mean?

bim·bo /ˈbim-bō/ · noun

  1. oldAn insult for a woman who is assumed to be pretty and empty-headed. Used to make women feel smaller for caring how they look.
  2. oursSomeone who is hyperfeminine on purpose: pink, glossy, unbothered, kind, and nobody’s fool. Knows exactly what she’s doing.

What we believe

Hot and smart were never opposites.

Lip gloss doesn’t lower your IQ. Caring how you look is a skill, not a symptom.

Pink is a power colour.

Girly isn’t a phase you grow out of to be taken seriously. Wear the pink. Wear all of it.

Hyperfeminine is not weak.

Soft, sparkly and extra takes nerve in a world that tells women to tone it down. Bimbos don’t.

Soft life, on purpose.

Rest, pleasure and looking cute are allowed. You don’t have to earn a nice time.

Every body, every gender.

Bimbo is a choice, not a body type. 2XS to 6XL, girls, gays, theys and himbos welcome.

Where the word came back from

When “bimbo” showed up in American slang around 1920, it was an insult for men: a dim, thuggish guy. Within a decade it had moved over to women, and it stuck. For the rest of the century it was the easy put-down for any woman who was pretty, blonde, loud or in the headlines.

The message was always the same: you can be hot or you can be taken seriously, pick one. Wear too much pink, laugh too loud, care too much about your nails, and you’ve chosen wrong.

Around 2020, a wave of creators on TikTok started calling themselves bimbos on purpose. The new bimbo is hyperfeminine, unapologetic and in on the joke, and she’s usually the kindest person in the room. Being underestimated stopped being an insult and started being a strategy.

Bimbo and slut-positive

Same fight, different word. Both were built to shame women for how they look and what they want. Both lose their power the second you wear them in pink. Read the slut-positive manifesto.

Who it’s for

Grown women and anyone who wants in: bimbos, himbos, brats, princesses and baddies. Our slogans are for adults, 18+. Every body, 2XS to 6XL.

Every order gives back

2% of every hyperfem order goes to the Ending Violence Association of Canada (EVA Canada), a national organisation that supports sexual assault centres and works to end gender-based violence across Canada. Because the point of all of this is that nobody gets hurt for what they wear.

We donate every quarter from our own sales. EVA Canada doesn’t endorse hyperfem and isn’t affiliated with us; we just think they’re great.

What does bimbo mean?+

Traditionally, “bimbo” is an insult for a woman who is assumed to be attractive and unintelligent. Since around 2020 it has been reclaimed: a bimbo is someone who is hyperfeminine on purpose (pink, glam, unapologetic) and rejects the idea that caring about looks makes you less smart or less worthy.

Isn’t “bimbo” an insult?+

It started as one. That’s the point of reclaiming it: a word only works as a put-down if you agree it’s shameful. We don’t. It’s yours to claim for yourself, never something to throw at anyone else.

What is bimbocore?+

The look: hot pink, Y2K silhouettes, baby tees, low-rise everything, rhinestones, platforms and a lot of lip gloss. Basically our whole shop.

Can guys and non-binary people be bimbos?+

Absolutely. The new bimbo is an attitude, not a gender. (Himbos, we see you.)

Wait, is this about the bread?+

No. Different bimbo entirely, no relation. Ours is pink and doesn’t come in a bag.
