the slut-positive manifesto
say it with us:
Slut is not
a bad word.
hyperfem is slut-positive and sex-positive, out loud. We print the words people used to throw at women on tiny bikinis and baby tees, because a word only hurts while someone else owns it.
What we believe
Your body, your rules.
What you wear, who you love, how much skin you show: yours to decide. Nobody else gets a vote.
Your outfit is not an invitation.
Consent is the only dress code. A bikini that says SLUT is a joke you’re in on, never a yes.
Words lose their power when we own them.
“Slut” was built to shame women into smaller lives. We put it in fat pink bubble letters instead.
Every body, every size.
2XS to 6XL, and everyone who wants in is welcome in the girls’ club. Hot is not a size.
Pleasure without shame.
Wanting things, liking sex, loving attention: none of it makes you less smart, less worthy or less deserving of respect.
Where the word came back from
“Slut” has been used for hundreds of years to keep women in line: for wearing too little, wanting too much, or just being noticed. It was never really about sex. It was about who gets to decide what a woman is allowed to be.
In 2011, a police officer in Toronto told a group of university students that women should avoid dressing like sluts if they didn’t want to be assaulted. The answer was a march that started in Toronto and spread to cities all over the world, built on one idea: clothes are not consent.
Slut-positivity grew out of that, and out of the sex-positive feminism that came before it: the belief that women can like sex, show skin and dress for themselves without losing anyone’s respect. Reclaiming the word is how you take the sting out of it. Say it loud enough, in pink enough, and it stops being a weapon.
Sex-positive, not for anyone’s gaze
Our bikinis aren’t made to please anyone but the girl wearing them. If someone else enjoys the view, that’s their business, and the slogan already told them the rules.
Who it’s for
Grown women and anyone who wants in: bimbos, brats, princesses, baddies, and the quiet ones who are done being quiet. Our slogans are for adults, 18+. Every body, 2XS to 6XL.
every order
putting our money where our mouth is
Every order gives back
2% of every hyperfem order goes to the Ending Violence Association of Canada (EVA Canada), a national organisation that supports sexual assault centres and works to end gender-based violence across Canada. Because the point of all of this is that nobody gets hurt for what they wear.
We donate every quarter from our own sales. EVA Canada doesn’t endorse hyperfem and isn’t affiliated with us; we just think they’re great.
you might be wondering
Isn’t “slut” offensive?+
It was meant to be. Words like slut have been used for centuries to police what women wear and who they are. Reclaiming them takes that power away. And it only works one way: it’s yours to claim for yourself, never ours (or anyone’s) to put on someone else.
Can I wear it in public?+
Your body, your call. Some of our pieces are loud, so wear them where you feel good. (We’d maybe skip the job interview.)
Why not just say “confident”?+
Because confidence was never the problem. Shame is. Slut-positive means nobody gets to make you feel small for your body, your clothes or your sex life, including you.
